ASSOCIATE PASTOR -  POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Associate Pastor, having been called by the church will work together with the Senior Pastor and Church Elders in the overall leadership of the congregation. The Associate Pastor will be directly responsible to the Senior Pastor (per Bethel’s bylaws – section 3.4)

Under the direction of the Senior Pastor, this position is responsible for building all Youth Ministries of the Church. It is expected that the position would take on increasing involvement and responsibility for Sunday School, young families and Christian education ministries.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Key areas of responsibility are outlined below and are summarized in the attached table.

1. Youth Ministry

• Be a pastor to youth and young families

• Disciple and equip youth in evangelism and discipleship

• Develop lay leaders in the youth ministry

• Coordinate and administer the youth program

2. Discipleship Ministries

• Develop the mentoring program at Bethel and equip youth leaders

• Develop the small group ministries for youth

3. Administration

• Formulate and coordinate plans for carrying out youth programs

• Promote the church’s vision among youth leaders and to help keep the youth ministries on target

• Provide encouragement and direction to youth leaders

• Help equip and train youth leaders

4. Outreach Ministries

• Work with the Senior Pastor and leadership at promoting community outreach

• Help in the training of youth in evangelism

• Help and facilitate the organization of outreach events

• Help launch outreach programs and initiatives

5. Preaching, Teaching & Visitation

• Preach and teach to the congregation and other groups as scheduled by the Senior Pastor

• Be involved in some visitation and follow-up as needed

    6. OTHER DUTIES (as assigned)

These roles will be subject to some changes as both pastors begin working together in their areas of responsibilities and begin to discover how they can best utilize their strengths and passion in their ministry in the church.

The associate pastor’s job performance will be monitored regularly by the senior pastor as well as a formal job evaluation being conducted after 6 and 12 months. The evaluation will be based on the effectiveness of the associate pastor in fulfilling the duties listed in the job description.
